Hello fellow readers,
It’s that time of year that is almost always ignored by almost all the stores in the
U.S. which I’m sure you could guess it’s Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving doesn’t have as much glamour as most holidays and is overlooked
because of Halloween and Christmas. People jump from Halloween straight into
the Christmas season, which a lot of people despise, but if you ask me, I consider
Thanksgiving as part of the Christmas season. I am that person who plays
Christmas music and buys the holiday drinks from coffee shops in November,
but hear me out; I find the Christmas season as a blanket statement for
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.

Here’s why I consider these holidays as part of the Christmas season: family.
All three of these holidays have to do with reuniting with family to celebrate.
Thanksgiving is a time of being with family and giving thanks. Christmas is also
about family - and presents, but mostly family - and traditions like Santa Clause
or Elf on a Shelf. New Years is a time of counting your blessings from the year
and looking forward to making new memories and resolutions that we’re sure to
break, but all with our family - and when I say family this includes the friends we
consider family.
On top of the family aspect, I am a huge believer of doing and having whatever
brings you joy. When I hear Christmas music or drink my favorite holiday
drinks, I feel so much joy because they are both associated with a happy time in
my life. The holidays always hold good memories and being able to have just a
little thing to look forward to makes a big difference in my attitude. I may not
be the only one, there might be people out there who really look forward to this
time of year, so don’t judge or put them down for it because it may be all they
have. (The same can be applied to the infamous Pumpkin Spice season, so keep
that in mind for next year.)
Almost my entire immediate family - parents and older sister - feel the same
way I do. We were all recently in the car and started blasting Christmas music.
During this time we started to reminisce on our holiday memories, the traditions
we’ve made over the years, and laughing. We all felt the shift in mood simply by
turning on the radio. So next time you crush the idea of Christmas after
Halloween, remember that it could be what makes someone really happy. You
don’t have to participate, but accept those around you that do. Have a great
Thanksgiving!
Live every day to the fullest.
Love, Damaris
